The 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles And
Famous Irish Regiments
To The Irish Boys of Gallipoli
A Fond Farewell
From the shore she held my hand
And cried a fond farewell.
For it's off to sunny climates now
And the Turk who fights like hell.
It was not Green like the Emerald Isle
But dust and full of flies.
The Turk he aint no Gentleman
And mercy he denies.
Suvla Bay and Chocolate Hill
Their names engraved in stone,
For many dear old Irish boys
They wont be going home.
The boys they fought for Liberty
To ease old Ireland's pain,
For now we're off to Picardy
And fighting once again.
So when you look upon those shores
And see what we have done,
The graves are in their thousands there,
And each a mother's son.
Three Cheers for you brave Irish boys
For Ireland loved you so,
You'll fight no more for freedom now
And the rest will onward go.
Upon this Ground, and Sacred earth
Sweet prayers i'll say for you,
From Suvla Bay to Chocolate Hill
Old Ireland saw you true.
And so the years have slowly passed
Since i had said farewell
To the boys who still remain behind
Who fought and died in hell.
And cried a fond farewell.
For it's off to sunny climates now
And the Turk who fights like hell.
It was not Green like the Emerald Isle
But dust and full of flies.
The Turk he aint no Gentleman
And mercy he denies.
Suvla Bay and Chocolate Hill
Their names engraved in stone,
For many dear old Irish boys

The boys they fought for Liberty
To ease old Ireland's pain,

So when you look upon those shores
And see what we have done,

To the boys who still remain behind
Who fought and died in hell.
